Wish You Were Here? (by Rachel J Bailey)
The splish and splash of waves echoes down the beach. I sit on smooth warm white pebbles, skin smelling of sun lotion. Sunlight ripples over rocks under the water, tinting them with turquoise green. Pristine white cliffs stretch round to enclose me in the scene. While you sit dreaming of my beach, half a world away, I sit under the hot sun, and feel the sands of my holiday dripping away.

One Year On (by Rachel J Bailey)
He left Sally sleeping to make his phone call in secret, softly shutting the bedroom door behind him. “A dozen red roses for tomorrow,” he told the florist. “Message: ‘With all my love, on our paper wedding anniversary. I wish I could be there with you.’” A pause. “Yes, I’ll take the chocolates too.” Satisfied his duty was done, he padded back to the bedroom, to the woman who was not his wife.

The Wall (by Rachel J Bailey)
Craig’s bedroom wall is a never disclosed shrine to film star Jessica Auburn. A picture of Jessica looking coyly from beneath the brim of a blue 1940’s style hat. Reviews of her first film. A saucy interview about her new relationship. Treasured, a picture, signed shortly before her death. But bolder than all of these, in the centre of the wall, the front page headline– “Jessica Auburn Murdered- Psychotic Stalker Still At Large.”

The Railway Platform. (by Rachel J Bailey)
A tribute to man’s dominance. Grey steel trees lead to a grey, corrugated iron sky, and the grey concrete grass is speckled with brightly coloured litter flowers. The river of tracks run on and on, brown and rust encrusted, but glinting on the surface. Like water, they carve their way through the landscape, carrying with them the flotsam and jetsam caught in their current, travelling ever onwards until they reach the sea.
